Yes, like most people I loved Seinfeld. One of my favorite episodes is when George decided to do everything the opposite that he would normally do. What happened? He started experiencing all this success in his life.

It makes me think that we could read a lot of the same into training. For almost ten years I have done the lifting that most coaches would have you believe is the best way to get strong and in shape. I have done the power cleans, deadlifts, back squats, and much more. Did it result in me getting stronger? Absolutely!

Yet, my strength programs have always felt incomplete and I ignored the many things that I am not good at. Being 6′4 and 250, single leg drills and body weight training was never that appealing. Body weight drills seemed repetitive and single leg drills were my weak point from so many ankle injuries in basketball. Guess what? When I did the opposite and spent time training these areas I got even stronger!

Many people talk about hitting your weak points, but sometimes the concepts don’t work well with the application. It wasn’t till I hit on the TRX that I became more interested in body weight training because you could manipulate leverage to create great strength exercises and progress in a more systemized manner. Combining the TRX with our Ultimate Sandbag and Ultimate Sandpack gave me motivation to create and integrate some unusual drills that hit my weak points in different ways that were still fun, yet challenging.

Now at least twice a week this form of training is at the center of what I do. The video above shows a great way to hit an overall body program with just a few focused exercises. If you are in doubt on what to do next take a lesson from George, try the opposite!
